Non-alcoholic drinks for your reception

Are you looking for a non-alcoholic all natural drink to serve at your wedding reception? Having an outdoor wedding during the summer and want something really refreshing for your guests? Amy and Brian’s Natural Coconut Juices are a great option!

They are made from the water of young coconuts and don’t contain the added sugar or artificial additives found in other drinks.

The juices comes in 3 flavours: natural, pulp, and with added lime.  I have to say that my favourite is the one with pulp, it actually has small delicious pieces of the coconut.

Wedding trend: creating a wedding website

Over the last couple of years I have observed the trend of creating wedding websites, especially for destination weddings. The websites typically include information about the couple, the wedding party, wedding location, recommended activities for their guests, etc.

When I got married almost 3 years ago, I wasn’t as tech savvy as I am today and had created an online wedding invitation using Evite. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s a great tool but you can’t personalize it as much as a wordpress website.

So you might be thinking that you aren’t as tech savvy as you would like to be, and don’t know where to start right? This is where The Blog Fairy comes in!  Not only is she a very talented web designer, she is also very knowledgable, affordable, and has different packages to suit all your needs.  Check out her portfolio to see what I am talking about.

While I was exhibiting at the Green Festival the co-owner of GoodLight Natural Candles stopped by and told me all about his natural toxic-free and affordable candles.

Greenvelop.com: A personalized Approach to Paperless Invitations

Currently, engaged couples are looking for more sustainable wedding options. One great way to start off a green wedding is with paperless invitations!

About a week ago, Greenvelope.com launched a web-service that offers “formal” online wedding invitations. Greenvelope’s web-based platform allows couples to send customized wedding invitations to their guests via email with the click of a button.

“People are ready to take advantage of Internet technology during the detailed wedding planning process,” said Sam Franklin founder of Greenvelope, which allows users to create guest lists, design invitations, and track responses all electronically.  “Couples are also becoming increasingly aware of the impact large events have on the environment. Paperless invitations are an easy start to a green wedding.”

While one does not open his or her physical mailbox to receive an e-invitation, Greenvelope preserves the hands-on feel by taking advantage of cutting-edge animation technology.  Guests receive a virtual envelope–addressed with calligraphy—in their email inbox.  After being prompted to click, the envelope gracefully opens revealing the invitation components. “Our goal is to imitate the experience and delight of opening a traditional paper wedding envelope,” said Franklin.

Greenvelope is proud to acknowledge other advantages to sending electronic invitations, aside from cost and the environment.  “Our electronic invitations are far less time consuming,” he said.  The system allows the user to easily compile a guest list by uploading bulk contacts from an email server.  As invitees RSVP, the guest list will automatically update with the latest response information.  In addition, the exhausting thank you process is streamlined, because hosts have the option of personalizing an electronic thank you note for each guest.  For those not ready to make the jump to an electronic invitation, Greenvelope offers a free electronic “Save the Date” package that, also, showcases the formal animation envelope experience.

Prior to Greenvelope, couples had few options for sending formal online invitations.  Most online invitation services are free, but the advertisements overshadow the content, and detract from the experience of receiving an electronic invitation.  Greenvelope charges a relatively small fee, but in exchange offers an advertisement-free product.  “We fill a void in current invitation technology,” said Franklin.

Greenvelope also gives back. For each invitation package ordered, Greenvelope donates a portion of the sale to Mountains To Sound Greenway, a Seattle-based non-profit organization geared towards preserving local forests.  In the future, customers will be able to choose from several environmentally-conscious non-profit organizations.

LAUNCH SPECIAL DISCOUNT: To help celebrate their launch, Greenvelope is offering our readers a 25% discount on their two most popular packages. Enter the coupon code “GreenWedding” at checkout and receive 25% off the Silver or Gold Package!

10 tips to having a green wedding

10 tips to having a green wedding

1. Have the ceremony and reception in the same location. Not only is this more environmentally friendly because your guests won’t have to travel to two different places, but you will also save money by only renting one location. Choosing an outdoor venue also means less lighting and fewer decorations!

2. Wear an eco-friendly wedding dress. This could be a dress made of organic materials, made locally and fair trade, a second-hand dress, or one that you borrow. (Example: Amy Kuschel’s or Recycled Bride)

3. Purchase conflict free diamonds, or rings made out of recycled materials. For more information visit: The Conflict-Free Diamond Council.

4. Purchase eco-friendly wedding invitations, or create your very own personalized online wedding invitations.

5. Select a caterer who offers local, seasonal food items, as well as a vegan option for a truly green wedding (Check out Philip Gelb’s work).

6. Flowers should be seasonal, local, and if possible organic.  To take it a step further, ask your florist to pick-up all the flowers at the end of the night and deliver them to a local hospital or charity. I cannot recommend Pilar from Gorgeous and Green enough.  Not only does she have amazing style and taste, but she is a certified green business.

7. Hire an eco-friendly photographer. Yes they do exist, and I even know one who is certified green! For more info check out the very lovely and talented Rebecca Wilkowski Photography.

8. Purchase green wedding favors such as: plantable seeded favors, organic chocolates, or soy candles instead of junk that will just end up in the landfill.

9. Choose an environmentally friendly wedding registry, or ask guests to make a donation to your favorite charity in lieu of gifts.

10. Reduce your carbon footprint and save money by planning a honeymoon close to home (go camping, go on a hiking trip, visit local museums, check out parks you’ve never been to before, just relax and explore new areas).

Stay tuned for more detailed posts about each tip!
